Claudia Kraus lives and works in Vienna. Her artistic practice includes photography, painting and drawing. In her work she deals with the expanded sensual perception of nature and mental landscapes. In particular she reflects on the themes of fragility and transience by tracing processes of change in nature.
Her approach to photography is intuitive-experimental, whereby she has developed an individual poetic visual language. Layers and textures are a recurring theme in her formal approach. Digital photographs are mostly the source material – sketches which are transformed or abstracted.
The Japanese aesthetic of Yūgen – which values the implied and hidden more highly than the open and clearly exposed – inspires her work, as does the idea of mystical immersion in nature.
Her works have been shown in several solo and group exhibitions in Vienna, London, Budapest, Melbourne, Miami and published in a number of national and international magazines.
